We Started in a Disaster.
We Still Work That Way.

Most housing companies started with apartments and added a trailer option later. We went the other direction. Our first placements were trailers on driveways after a disaster, and the way we work today comes straight from those jobs.

Where we come from

1st Choice Living was founded in 2004 to house families displaced by disaster. The housing was a furnished travel trailer, delivered and set up on the family’s own property, so they could stay near their home, their contractor, their school, and their neighbors while the house was put back together. Nobody had to leave the land, and nobody had to drive across town to check on the rebuild.

That first work was disaster and insurance housing, and it is still the spine of the company. Over the years the same units and the same people have housed insurance claims across the country, crews on remote job sites, and residents getting back on their feet after storms. The buyers have changed. The job has not: put a livable home where the need is, keep it running, and take it away clean when the stay is over.

What we do now

We place on-site temporary housing for six kinds of buyers. Each has its own page.

• On-site RV housing: a furnished trailer on the property, for anyone who needs to stay put while a home is rebuilt.
• Adjusters and carriers: ALE housing on the policyholder's own lot, direct billed to the claim.
• Housing companies and TPAs: an on-site vendor for the files a hotel or apartment cannot serve.
• Workforce housing: crew quarters on or next to the job site, for as long as the project runs.
• Disaster response: housing for residents and responders after a storm, fire, or flood.
• Medical housing: a place to stay near treatment for patients and the family members who travel with them.

Three brands, each on its own

1st Choice Living is the front door. Behind it are three brands, and you can hire any one of them without the others.

Together they cover a placement from the first call to move out. Separately, each one solves a problem you may already have.

How we work

We call it People 1st. It is a short list, and every item on it is something we do on every placement.

• One named contact from the first call to pickup.
• Nationwide, with units staged near you.
• Utility connections by licensed, insured contractors from our preferred vendor network.
• Site conditions documented at setup and again at takedown.
• Direct billing to carriers, TPAs, housing companies, employers, and agencies.
• $0 out of pocket for a family on a covered claim.
• Local rules checked before a unit is delivered.

If a placement needs something that is not on this list, ask. The answer is usually yes, and when it is not, you will hear that on the same call rather than after the unit is on the road.
